Flow Charts
The flow charts below show the books used at each level and the various choices you can make as you work through the program. Click on either of the pages to see an expanded view.
A heading on each chart shows which books are consumable workbooks that the students will write in. The headings also show which books are printed in black print and which books are printed with color-coded vowels. The vowel colors make the vowels stand out within each word. The specific color designates the sound to pronounce for that vowel or vowel pattern. For example, all vowel patterns that represent the long a sound are printed in a dark red color.
At levels three and four there are several different books or sets of books at the same level. You can select the books best suited to your students. It is not necessary to use every book at levels three and four.
Level 1 - Learning The Alphabet - Red sections
Level 2 - Exploring Sounds In Words - Purple sections
Level 3 - Short Vowels - Blue sections
Level 4 - Phonics Patterns - Green sections

- At levels one and two the instruction is directly from workbooks. These are readiness and advanced readiness levels. At level one, students trace large and small alphabet letters. At level two, students trace and copy large and small alphabet letters on lined pages. They also write letters from dictation, given their sounds.
- At level three students use a book and a workbook to practice reading short vowel words and sentences. They continue to write letters from dictation and also spell ten short vowel words and a sentence each day.
- At level four, students use a series of eight books along with related workbooks. They study one new phonetic pattern or syllable pattern each day. The teacher dictates ten new words and a sentence daily for students to write on lined paper. Students read decodable practice stories and several easy children's trade books as they progress through the lessons. Students are also introduced to basic suffixes at level four.
- Level five has an instructional book but no workbook. Students study nine to twelve new words for each new advanced phonetic pattern or syllable pattern. They also study many new suffixes and prefixes. They read children's trade books as they progress, arranged in a sequence that allows all of the books to be decodable.
