Phonemic Awareness
Picture Pages This book contains picture pages from the level one and level two books in this program. They are included in this book so that they can be used with older students who have already learned the alphabet letters and how to write them. These are the exercises included in the book.
This book includes the print awareness lessons for beginning students from level one. It also includes a short essay about the history of written language and how it was developed. This will be appropriate for older students. |
A Sound Story About
Audrey And Brad, Aug 2018 The teacher reads this story aloud to introduce the sounds in the English language. Each sound is associated with a large color picture of something that occurs in the story. Some examples include the sound of wind blowing, a vacuum running, a delivery truck engine, or a ball bouncing on a gym floor. The letter or letter pattern that represents the same sound in words is shown with each sound picture.
Part one of the sound story introduces the alphabet letters and the long ī
sound. These sections of the story are used to introduce the alphabet letters and their sounds at levels one and two. Part two of the story introduces the rest of the long vowel sounds, dotted vowel sounds, vowel diphthongs, and consonant digraph sounds. These patterns are taught at levels four and five.

PDF File For
Baseline Assessment This is an assessment test that will show you what your students already know before you begin teaching using the Sound City Reading materials. It includes checklists to show the alphabet letters and phonics patterns students have already learned and the patterns they still need to learn. Students read word lists that include short vowel words, words with beginning and ending consonant blends, words with a variety of phonics patterns and syllable patterns, and sight words. Students write the letters of the alphabet and a few phonetic words, irregular sight words, and sentences from dictation. You can use the results to decide on the best starting level for your student(s).

PDF Files For Sequence Charts
Newer Sequence Chart Book
I have loaded the newest version of the sequence chart. It contains an overview of the Sound City Reading program and both sequence charts and lesson plans for all of the levels. Most of the Sound City Reading books have a sequence chart and lesson plan at the end of the book. I've copied all of the sequence charts and lesson plans into this one book for easy reference. The book also includes a sound summary chart and a small version of the sound story.
