Manuscript Handwriting
Levels 1 And 2 - Manuscript Handwriting
Handwriting books at these two preparatory levels are easier than those at the elementary level. Students trace large and small letters or letter outlines to learn to write the letters. Learning to write the letters helps students recognize and remember the letters when they see them. There are a variety of books to choose. Note that the Learning The Alphabet books at level one and the Exploring Sounds In Words books at level two contain all of the needed handwriting pages.
This book contains handwriting readiness picture pages and large and small letter outlines to trace. When working with the small letter outlines, for each new letter students trace a full page of of the new letter followed by a separate page with review letters. Both large and small letters are shown on handwriting lines.
|
This book includes large and small letter outlines on lined paper. The large letter outlines are thicker, making them easy to finger trace. There is one large and one small letter page for each letter. There are a few review pages at the end of the book, but there are no review pages between new letters.
|
In this book students trace large letter outlines on lined paper and small letters outlines on unlined paper. The large letters are thicker, making them easy to finger trace. Students trace just one row of small letters for each new letter. At the end of the book small letter outlines for the whole alphabet are included for review.
|
This book has just the handwriting readiness picture pages. Students add lines to pictures or trace lines that are part of pictures. Each picture is designed to teach students how to form a particular stroke that will be needed to write letters. There are no letters to trace in this book.
|
For each new letter, this book includes the following: one or two handwriting readiness picture pages, a large sound story page, a page with both the large capital and lower case letter to trace, separate pages to trace and copy large capital and lower case letters, and page with to practice tracing and copying smaller capital and lower case letters. Practice with review letters is included after each new letter is introduced.
|
Students trace large capital and lower case letters, trace and copy medium sized letters, and trace and copy smaller letters, including review letters. This book includes handwriting warmup exercises that are geometric shapes. The shapes are selected so that students learn to form the strokes needed to write all of the letters of the alphabet.

Levels 3 And 4 - Manuscript Handwriting
The handwriting books at these two elementary levels are more challenging than those at the preparatory level. Instructions are included. Using large three-panel pages with large letter patterns, students trace the new letter, copy it, and then write it from memory. Students then trace and copy smaller letters. Handwriting pages are available for letter sized paper, legal sized paper, and 11 by 17 inch ledger paper. Students who have difficulty with pencil skills and letter formation should use the largest paper size, if possible. The pages printed on legal sized paper will be a good fit for most students. If you are unable to print on the larger paper sizes, you can use the letter sized paper.
Although you could bind these handwriting pages to make books, they will be easier to use if you leave them in a stack and do not bind them. Many of the pages will need to be folded into thirds. If you do bind the pages, the page that needs to be folded would have to be torn out each day.
Cursive Handwriting
Level 5 - Cursive Handwriting (2nd grade and up)
Cursive handwriting pages can be printed on 11 by 17 inch ledger paper, on legal sized paper, or letter sized paper. Instructions are included.
