                                                  Exploring Sounds In Words
Scroll down to see videos for every level showing how to say the sounds on the sound cards.

Click on the green bar below to open a video which demonstrates how to say the sound for each alphabet card.  The letters on the cards are shown in the order in which they are taught.  This order has been selected so that the first letters students learn are some of the easiest to write.  This matches the order in which the letters are introduced in A Sound Story About Audrey And Brad.  Teach students one new letter at a time.  Read the section in the sound story aloud for each new letter, model the sound, and have students repeat.  Show the new sound card, and have students say the sound again.  Introduce the new letter on the chalkboard, then students trace or trace and copy the same letter on the board and on the handwriting pages in the book.  Learning to write the letters provides multi-sensory feedback to the students, which helps them to remember the letters more easily.
Sound Cards - Alphabet - For Levels 1 And 2

Sound Cards - Level 3, Short Vowels

Sound Cards - Level 4, Phonics Patterns
These videos can be used with any of the phonics patterns books: Phonetic Words And Stories, Books 1-8, Basic Phonics Patterns, Books 1-8, or Know The Phonetic Code, Books 1-8.

Click on the bars below to open videos which demonstrate how to say the sounds from the sound cards for each book at the Phonics Patterns level.  The patterns on the cards are shown in the order in which they are taught.   Keep the cards in order.  The cards are cumulative.  Continue to say the sound for the previous cards as you move to new books.  A list of patterns taught is included in the card pack.  There is also a sequence chart at the end of each book showing the order in which the patterns are taught.

Some letters and patterns can represent more than one sound in words.  Have students say each sound when they see the card, with a slight pause between each sound.

In some cases, one or two sounds for a pattern are taught first, and other sounds are taught in later books. See the list in the card pack which which shows which sounds should be introduced in each book.  Students only say the sounds that have been taught so far.  They should add extra sounds after they learn them.
